Changing Attitude, Subjective Norm, Perceived Behavioral Control, Mammography Self-Efficacy Regarding Breast Cancer Screening: The Effect Of An Educational Intervention In Women Aged 40 To 60 Years

Abstract

Breast cancer stands as the leading cause of cancer related mortality in women. Mammography screening can improve prevention and early detection of breast cancer. increasing of rates of mammography screening includes different variables. So the purpose of This article changing Attitude, Subjective Norm, Perceived Behavioral Control, and mammography self-efficacy construct in order to increase intention and behavior of screening mammogram by an educational intervention in women. Among the women referred to the health centers of 1 and 2 areas in Arak, 300 women (40 – 60 year old) answered Mammography Self-Efficacy Scale and planned behavior theory questioner. Then 30 women were selected and divided into two groups of experimental and control. Experimental group received 3 sessions of training (60 minute in per session). then post test had performed for two groups and participants were followed up for mammography in two months. After the intervention, significant changes were detected in the intervention group in Mammography Self-Efficacy, attitude, Subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, intention and behavior of mammography during the time and experimental group compared to the control group showed significant difference in the scores of variables. Researchers may want to include self-efficacy mammography in addition to the TPB and other demographic characteristics in future applications to improvement health behavior.
