The effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) on body image and irrational beliefs women with breast cancer.

Abstract

The aim of this research to study the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) on body image and irrational beliefs women with breast cancer. This research method was semi-experimental and with pretest-posttest design with control group. Using Jones`s irrational beliefs questionnaire and Soeiter-Garcia`s body image questionnaire, 30 people of women with breast cancer with low body image and high irrational beliefs were simple randomly selected and were simple randomly assigned to experimental and control group (15 person in each group). The experimental group received 8 sessions of Linehan`s Dialectical behavior Therapy techniques (one or two session weekly) and the control group did not received any intervention. After the intervention, body image and irrational beliefs of control and experimental group were measured again. The findings were analysed with using multivariate covariance analysis (Mancova). Calculated F for original hypotheses and secondary hypotheses showed significant differences in both two groups. This investigation in the encourage of similar studies results indicated that DBT had effective role in increase body image and decrease irrational beliefs of women with breast cancer
