Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of forgiveness training on increasing positive emotions and empathy of divorced women in Dezful’s welfare program in 2013. Thirty divorced women were randomly selected from the 67 women in Dezful’s welfare program. They were divided into control and experiment groups. Each group was given a pre-test, consisting of the Transgression- Related Interpersonal Motivations (1998) Questionnaires, Positive and Negative Emotions (1988) Questionnaires, Trait Empathy Batson (1997) Questionnaires. The experiment group participated in six sessions of training (90 minutes per week), and the control group did not receive any intervention. The post and follow-up tests were performed and data were analyzed using covariance analysis and t-test, using the SPSS 22 software.  The results show difference between pre- and post-test data in the experiment group. The forgiveness training has the ability to positively impact interpersonal motivations related to emotional damages (such as avoidance, revenge), positive emotions, negative emotions and empathy, So, forgiveness training is a useful and effective approach to reduce the emotional suffering and problems arising from divorce in women.
