Relationship Between Modernismand Relative Deprivation and the amount of Cosmetics Use from the Perspective of Female university Students

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to investigate the effect of modernism and relative deprivation on girls` tendency in using cosmetics. Today, among young girls we have seen excessive use of
cosmetics and this has led to a more sustainable industry in this field. Existing theoretical literature and previous research claim the influence of modern equipment as a social pattern that has affected young people. The method of this study was survey and data was collected through questionnaires. The statistical population consisted of female students of Tehran Islamic Azad University, Medical
Branch. The population was 800 subjects from which 400 were selected randomly to study. Results indicated that there is a significant relationship between relative deprivation and the use of cosmetics (r=0.375) and between modernism and the use of cosmetics (r=0.53). There is a significant relationship between modernism and the girl’s tendency to use cosmetics. Structural equation modeling resultsindicated that RMSEA index is 0.058 proportion of Chi-square to the degree of freedom (CMIN/DF) is 2.31, CFI is 0.90 and PCFI index is 0.82. Also the PNFI index in this study is 0.67 that indicates the value as acceptable.
